The fire service has issued a full statement after a huge blaze overnight in Salford. Residents were urged to keep their windows and doors closed as firefighters battled the flames at an industrial estate on Bazaar Street, in Pendleton.
The area was cordoned off as fire crews spent eight hours tackling the fire. Images from the scene on Thursday morning (February 20) showed the upstairs of a building with severe damage caused in the incident.
Windows were also left smashed, while smoke damage could be seen outside the upper floor of the building. Charred debris could also be seen on the ground.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service issued a warning to residents living in nearby areas of Pendleton while crews worked at the scene overnight.
A section of Greenwood Street was closed off near Bazaar Street while firefighters worked at the scene. Remnants of tape from the cordon could be seen in the area on Thursday morning.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. Emergency crews were called out at around 9.40pm and remained in attendance for eight hours to bring the blaze under control.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 9.40pm on Wednesday 19 February, eight fire engines, the enhanced rescue unit, the command support unit and the breathing apparatus unit from across Greater Manchester attended a building fire on Bazaar Street, Salford.
“Crews wearing breathing apparatus arrived quickly and used two hose reel jets and one scorpion to extinguish the fire. Crews were in attendance for roughly 8 hours.”
