Palestinian Authority president Abbas says ready to hold elections within a year

Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday said he was ready to hold presidential and parliamentary elections within the year – if circumstances allow – at an Arab League summit on Gaza reconstruction held in Cairo.  He also announced the creation of a vice-presidential position in his government and amnesty for expelled members of his Fatah party.
