Chris Pratt almost ruined his brother-in-law Patrick Schwarzenegger’s surprise proposal.

Schwarzenegger asked his longtime girlfriend, Abby Champion, to marry him in December 2023.

On The Kelly Clarkson Show, Schwarzenegger spoke about the proposal and how Pratt — who is married to his sister, Katherine Schwarzenegger — came to be involved.

Schwarzenegger said he tried his best to make his proposal to Champion “unique.”

“We’ve been together for so long that I wanted to find some way that was going to be kind of unique, and still surprise her,” he said. “And so we go on a little morning sunrise walk at like 6 a.m. down at the beach and that’s when I did it. She was in her her pajama pants, or her sweat pants. She had no makeup on.”

“And I had my whole family — my dad, my mom, her family, was all hiding in this lifeguard station down at the beach,” he continued. “And Chris (Pratt), my brother-in-law, set up an umbrella on the beach, and he set up all these roses and all these flowers, and then right when we walked down, he jumped up with the umbrella and ran away, and there was this beautiful flower arrangement. That’s where I proposed.”

Schwarzenegger, who is starring as Saxon Ratliff in Season 3 of “The White Lotus,” explained that Champion didn’t suspect a thing until she saw Pratt run away “at the last second.”

“She’s like, ‘Is that Chris?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah,'” he laughed.

After they got engaged, Schwarzenegger shared a beautiful picture of him wrapping his arms around Champion on the beach while she showed off her new engagement ring.

“SHE SAID YESSSSS,” he captioned the pic on X with multiple ring and heart emojis.

Schwarzenegger and Champion have been romantically linked since 2016. When Schwarzenegger’s mom, Maria Shriver, found out that her son had gotten engaged, she gave him and Champion a lovely shout-out on Instagram.

It said, “So this happened, and I’m beyond thrilled! I’m beyond inspired. I’m beyond excited @abbychampion and @patrickschwarzenegger make such a beautiful couple! They love each other, they accept one another, they cheer one another on.”

“They are each others best friend, confidante, and cheerleader. Their love is something to behold. I’m so happy for them, for their now, and for their future! Abby and Patrick, we all love you! 😍 Here’s to more love in our world!” she added.
